I'm sorry Ms.Jackson, are you fo real?

I have to admit, I did not read every line of this "Stitch Bitch" essay, article, hypertext or whatever it's supposed to be. I was pretty much confused the whole time, skipping around trying to find meaning of something in this text. The only conclusion I've really come to is that maybe the whole point of hypertext is that it doesn't have to make any sense. I don't think that there was any true beginning or end and it didn't flow like a story you'd read in a book. Hypertext doesn't give boundaries to the writer like a novel does, which allows for a lot of creativity. Do I like hypertexts? Yes. Did I enjoy reading "Stitch Bitch"? Not at all.

  1. Ben I could not agree more with this post. Shelly Jackson's entire article had no flow to it at all, it was random bits and pieces of her thoughts, drowned out with way to many metaphors. I feel that metaphors can help to improve a persons piece of writing, but she used them to the point where her entire article seemed to lack a focus. It was George Orwell's metaphor in his piece of Politics and the English Language where he described metaphors and or the enlgish langauage in general as being used too much to make an author's piece of writing much more fancy. But the truth of the matter is that metaphors, if over used, will distract the reader and make them forget what they are reading about. Thank you Shelley Jackson for doing this all of us. Also, if her writing was supposed to reflect a hypertext, which was one of my thoughts too because I was unsure as to what to think about the whole article as well, then she needs to get on the internet and just read more of anything she can find. Mostly all writings on the internet are not as confusing as hers. I wouldn't even call the article complex because that might sound like a positive thing, but I definitely think that it was drastically overdone and terribly written. Hypertext's do include other pieces of information and connect to many other pieces of writing as well, but her article was just absolutely terrible.
