Am I a writer?
Dictionary.com's definition of a writer: "a person engaged in writing books, articles, stories, etc., esp. as an occupation or profession; an author or journalist." According to this, I am a writer under the catagory of "other". I do write essays for class and I do sometimes send emails so I guess I'm a writer. For most people I think a writer is considered to be an author, journalist, poet or someone who writes for a profession. I believe the term goes much further then just "writing". Anyone who creates should be considered a writer. For example, a musician who creates a song should be considered a writer. A computer porgramer could also be considered a writer because they "write" code.

That's a good point I didn't consider a writer being anything outside of writing a novel, article, or journal. After taking computer science, I do agree that a computer programmer is writer. Javascript and html are their own languages and there are people that are masters of the language and people who aren't such as myself.
ReplyDeleteBen I completely agree. Doing any form of writing, in my opinion as well, makes someone a writer. We all write for WSC everyday, how can someone tell us that we aren't writers? I'd be kind of pissed off about that.
ReplyDeleteBen you make a great point, i myself dont consider myself to be a write because i am not an "author". But we all write for classes, and even our blogs which are considered full of emotion and ideas make us writers.
ReplyDeleteBen, you raise an interesting point. Personally, I don't believe that you can be a writer if you don't perform the action of writing, but we're writing these blogs so we can see things from our peer's point of views as well as our own. Although I disagree, I do respect your opinion on the subject.
