Writing Center Experience

I thought my paper was boring and close to death, but after my experience at the writing center it turned into my golden ticket for an A+!

The writing center was a great experience and I recommend going to all those who haven't gone yet. I came in with some ideas and sat down with my "instructor" one on one. My biggest problem when writing is trying to get my ideas from my head to the pen. I have all these thoughts and plans in my head but they never seem to come out on paper the same way i had them pictured in my head. At the writing center my instructor helped me with this problem. I would talk with her about what I was trying to write down and she would help me construct my ideas more thoroughly. This was an overall great experience and I plan on going back for our next assigned paper.

  2. okay...okay... but is this possible? Sounds like a fairy tale to me. I mean, c'mon, can you really get a golden ticket after one meeting with a reader/tutor/consultant?

What actually happens in a writing tutorial?

  3. I'm glad you enjoyed your experience. I have the same problem when writing. I always have a good idea and even sometimes I write out a good plan of action, but sometimes it doesn't translate well and all thats left on th page are my fragmented thoughts without an explanation for the reader. It's like in the Bruffee piece when he states that writing is a conversation. It really is and the writing center gives you a place to talk.

  4. wait wait wait a minute! you must have written this before you even came to the writing center because there was two of us working with you! you may have a problem getting ideas down on paper; that is a common problem for all of us writers! But if I could give you any advice it would be to slow down and put time and effort into your writing--that may be your real problem!

PS: This whole post was FLUFF! You know how we feel about fluff sir! tisk tisk

  5. I agree ten-fold with Lizz. Kill the fluff. General life lessons: Don't lie about going to the writing center or anything for that matter, and take pride in your work. Even if it is not something you are interested it's still a reflection of you and you don't want to be in a situation where you have to defend yourself for something you didn't put effort into. I believe you have it in you and you can do it but take the time to put the effort in. And if you come to the writing center for help then we can push you in the right direction. (resisting the urge to make a right write pun)

  6. I feel your pain. I too have the hardest time figuring out what the hell I'm going to write about. That's why in high school I would have my mother sit at the computer and I would talk through what I had to write and she would type what I said. After we would go back and edit and make everything flow. That definitely helped but too bad my mom isn't here anymore to help me out!
